Chapter 1 - Looking for Dad: Scenario 1 - Getting the Girls

Mama went to Bia’s school to get her. The radio speaks endlessly about the strange behaviour from people with some kind of flu.

“Get inside, Bia – we’re going to get your sisters.”

“Where are they, mama?”

“At the bar…”

Bia looks at her with a mischievous smile while she puts the seat belt.

“They won’t like it…”

“They don’t have to.”

And Mama pulls away.

Mama parks and both of them get out of the car. There’s a strange atmosphere in the street.

“Let’s go, honey.”

And they move in the bar’s direction.

Mama looks around apprehensively, but everything seems to be okay and from the cafe they can hear sounds of laughter and young voices talking loud. Then a man, a few steps from them, starts making strange noises with his throat…
“I’m armed.”

Bia says quietly. Mama is observing the man.

“Don’t be silly, honey – it’s just this new flu. I’ve told you several times that you can’t go out armed.”

The man bends himself down with spasms.

“Are you alright, sir?”

Mama asks. But he just snarls and looks back at her with crazed eyes.

“Mama?…”
A strange transformation seems to afflict the man and he moves towards Mama, his arms streched and saliva falling from his mouth.

“Mama!!”

But Mama seems capable to defend herself from him with ease.

“Go get your sisters. Quickly!”

And Bia runs to the cafe, looking back and afraid for her mother.

“Lia! Mia! Come quickly! Mama is in trouble!”

While Mama pushes the man back, some people gathers around the fight, looking, but nobody seems capable of doing a thing.

“The world is going crazy...”

Someone says from the crowd.

“That man looks sick. See how he’s moving so slowly.”

Mama tries to talk some sense to the man, but he seems incapable to listen.

“Come on, girls, be quick about it”, she shouts.

“Mia! Lia! Will you come out now?”

And there is fear in Bia’s voice. From inside, Mia shouts back.

“We’re just paying. Hold a moment, will you?”

And Bia looks back to her mother and sees something that shivers her from inside. She shouts, way more scared this time.

“Look out, mother! There’s another! There’s another one!”

And Mama looks around quickly. There’s a strange noise coming from someone’s throat in the crowd.

And another man seems to get in the same state as the first one, growling and getting mad.

He attacks Mama more fiercely than the first one, making awful noises that are half words, half mad shouts, moving as if he is drunk, his hands trying to get her, like claws.

Mama gets caught a little by surprise and a strange horror seems to take her will for a moment.

But she still manages to push down the first man while she
keeps the second one under attention.
The girls finally leave the cafe interior and already outside they watch with horror their mother fighting the two men, while the crowd watches, stunned and motionless.

“Let’s go, sis-ees…” Bia says.

Mia is taken aback.

“What is this?”

But Lia gives her a push.

“Let’s go. Mama needs help.”

And they watch horrified, as Mama…

…is pushed down by the second man. Both move to her like slow-motion madmen.

“Mother!” shouts Mia almost in tears.

“Let’s help her”, says Lia.

But they’re taken aback by the voice of her kid sister – cold and detached.

“Consider it done”, she says…

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!
And she pops three rounds in the head of the second man, who falls to the ground like an heavy bag trashing around arms and legs.

And now people start running away.

“Let’s move”, says Lia warily, looking her kid sister with a new set of eyes.

Mama gets up, looking the fallen man that her daugter killed, but at the moment her thoughts cannot keep with that problem, as the other man maintains his onslaught on her.

She sidesteps him, putting herself between him and the girls.

“Move to the car, girls. We’ve gotta get out of here.”

And she sees the girls moving fast to the car.

But Bia stays behind, looking to her smoking gun.

“Bia! Come on, girl. No time for that now.”

And her mother’s voice seems to awaken her from her thoughts.

And while the girls run, the man attacks her again. She holds him back.

“Help Mama, Lia!”, shouts Mia while she holds back, waiting for Bia.

“Kiai!”

And with a kung fu shout, Lia throws the man back.

The others run away past her.

Then she follows them.
They run to the car, and Mama gets in and starts the engine with trembling hands.

The engine starts swiftly.

Good old Opel, Mama thinks.

And she moves away, while the man gets back to his feet, still moving in their direction.

“What the hell is happening here?” shouts Mia.

Lia looks back at Bia.

“Are you alright?”

And Mama looks at her through the rear-view mirror.

“Sorry, Mama… but he was…”

Mama smiles at her. “I know, honey. We’ll talk about that later…”

As the Opel makes the turn, the girls can still watch the man moving down the street, towards the passers-by running away.

“What we’ll do now, Mama?” Lia asks.

“We’ll go home and wait for your dad. Then we’ll see.”

Bia seems to fully awake.

“Dad?! Is dad alright, Mama?”

Mama smiles at her.

“Don’t you know dad? You can bet that he’s alright. He must be going home right now.”

Game Notes: I’ve played this scenario with Warlord modified rules. I had to create a “Changing-to-zombie” template and some passer-by automatic movement rules.

Passers-by
I put cards in the deck to simulate the passing people. They moved along the street until leave from one or the other edge.
Every turn rolls one die. 1D10-5 new passers-by enter the game table. Roll one die per each passer-by. On a odd number it will enter south, on a even number it will enter west.
At each time the turn ends and a passer-by is at 4'' or less from the girls roll a die. On a 8+ the passer-by will become a zombie changing and it will attack the nearest girl.
